Abstract

Description

In this interview, Participant 407 shares their experience with planning and consulting on afterschool and summer break programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The participant shares that they have not been able to return to schools since March 2020 due to the concerns and uncertainties around COVID-19 transmission, sharing that March 13 was an unforgettable date due to the school closures. They share that they have been able to check in on students online, but that it's frustrating when internet goes out or other technical difficulties cause a change in plans. The participant describes comparing different messages from news to determine trusted sources. They discuss how the changes in school and extracurricular activities have been difficult for their children, disrupting their main sources of social interaction and self-expression. The participant shares that sources of strength have been their faith, family connections through the phone, and going back to school. They describe their disappointment in missing opportunities to see extended family, but that in some ways the pandemic has brought people closer together.
