Title: Nitrate in Drinking Water Wells in New Jersey: Burlington, Gloucester, Mercer, Ocean, and Salem Counties
Author: Murphy, Eileen A.
Abstract: Drinking water wells throughout Burlington, Gloucester, Mercer, Ocean and Salem Counties, New Jersey were sampled for levels of nitrate during the spring and summer of 1990 and 1991. Highest nitrate concentrations were found in water from shallow wells (less than 100 ft.), within 50 ft. of a septic tank, near land to which fertilizer had been applied, and within 1/4 mile of an agricultural area, sod farm or golf course.
