Abstract

Chemical contaminants in drinking water are often present at low concentrations. To identify and characterize these contaminants using biological assays and/or advanced chemical analytical techniques it is necessary to extract and concentrate these contaminants. Large volumes of drinking water, typically 100 to 500 liters, must be extractecd with organic solvents, and the extract concentrated to obtain sufficient levels of contaminants for analysis.
