When analyzing marine bathing water samples using the September 2002 version of the USEPA Method 1600enterococcus test, Aerococcus viridans was infrequently observed as a high-rate “false-positive” organism. The USEPA intends to revise Method 1600 to eliminate the counting of blue-halo colonies less than 0.5 mm diameter, but users of the September 2002 or earlier version of Method 1600 should be aware of this false-positive issue.en_US
