Governor Whitman was born in NYC on September 26, 1946, grew up in Hunterdon County, NJ and received her undergraduate degree from Wheaton College. She is the first female governor of New Jersey. Governor Whitman ran on a platform of reducing income taxes 10% for three years. A campaign promise she kept. In 2001 Governor Whitman left the governorship to become head of the United States Environmental Protection Agency under President George W. Bush.
