The Division on Civil Rights (DCR) is part of the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General /Department of Law and Public Safety and is the agency responsible for investigating discrimination complaints and eradicating illegal discrimination in New Jersey. The Division's work is focused in three major areas: employment, housing and public accommodation discrimination.

75th Anniversary of the Law Against Discrimination
On April 16, 1945, Governor Walter E. Edge signed a bill sponsored by Dr. James O. Hill, enacting the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination and creating the Division Against Discrimination (now known as the Division on Civil Rights).
