Item Climate Change Impacts on Human Health & Communities : Addendum to the 2020 New Jersey Scientific Report on Climate Change(Trenton, N.J. : Department of Environmental Protection, 2022-09) New Jersey. Department of Environmental Protection; Bonventre, Josephine A.; Lester, Lori A.Since the middle of the twentieth century, the changes in weather patterns in combination with global population growth have led to an increase in human exposure to more severe heat waves, forest fires, severe storms, droughts, and infectious disease vectors, with dire consequences to human health and communities. From a greater incidence of cardiovascular and respiratory dysfunction associated with extreme weather, to population displacement caused by rising sea-levels and increased flooding events, to the often-overlooked mental health toll that climate change has on individuals and communities, the vulnerability of the human population to climate change is tangible. The following sections describe how the impacts of climate change described in the 2020 New Jersey Scientific Report on Climate Change may affect the human health and communities of New Jersey residents.
