Abstract
In 1970, Grovers Mill Pond in West Windsor was all but dead. An overabundance of plant life had sucked the oxygen from the water rendering it inhospitable to aquatic wildlife. Last year, with a federal grant secured by Congressman Rush Holt, the Army Corps of Engineers restored the pond by removing 65,000 pounds of silt and organic matter that were choking the life from it.
This spring, using funds from the sale of fishing, hunting and trapping licenses, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) restocked on the pond with warm water game fish. On April 20th, the first day of Earth Week, the DEP put the last of the fish into the pond with a little help from the 5th graders of the Millstone River School.
