Abstract

Description

Governor Jon Corzine and Commissioners Jennifer Velez and Heather Howard announce the NJ Family Planning Expansion Project in New Brunswick, N.J. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009. New Jersey has applied to the Centers for Medicaid and Medicaid (CMS) for a waiver to create a program with the purpose of expanding family planning services to a new population of women. The project will help women plan their pregnancies and therefore reducing the social and economic costs associated with unintended and mistimed pregnancies. It is estimated that between 60,000 and 70,000 women and about 8,000 men will be eligible for the program over the course of the five year waiver. Unlike the traditional Medicaid match of 50/50, the federal match for family planning services is 90/10.
