This coat is embroidered with gold and silver threads. Next to the coat is a gold capped wooden walking cane, This cane is engraved with the following "Bequeathed by General George Washington to Robert Washington of Chotanck from his descendants to his grandson Peter Grayson Washington". In front of the waist coat is a man's "worked" pocketbook from 1759. Pocketbooks were typically carried by men in the 18th century to hold papers and money. This rectangular one is "worked" or embroidered with the owners name and more then likely a treasured gift from someone.Original file name 42 Gentlemen Attire 1700 to 1725.jpg2912 x 3814Each photograph within this collection is protected by copyright and/or related rights.
