It is a .68 caliber rifle. It bears the name of its inventor , Patrick Fergusion and represents a major technological advancement over the flintlock musket. Its range and accuracy were far greater than the flintlock . In addition, this rifle employed a breech loading system that allowed for quick reloading of ammunition. Unfortunately , for some reason that is unknown, there were only 100 enlisted men's Ferguson rifles made during the Revolutionary War, This particular Ferguson rifle may be the only surviving enlisted men's model.
