Gen. William Drake. In the Middle is The 1767 Silver Hilted Small sword. Because of artists like Charles Willson Peale, we know that Washington�s best sword at the time was the 1767 smallsword, since he chose to be portrayed wearing it in the 1772 canvas. One of these two swords was often carried into battle by Washington. the sword with the agate grip and the saw teeth was intended for use in cutting up game killed in the hunt. Circa 1776 this Saber as carried by cavalry officers in the American Revolution.
