It was created in 1995 by the Boehm Porcelain Studio of Trenton It shows a northern oak (the state tree) on which are perched 21 male and female American goldfinches (the state bird), one for each county in New Jersey. Violas (the state flower) grow around the base of the tree, and 13 honeybees (the state insect), representing the 13 original colonies. A single ladybug represents the state's first female governor: Christine Todd Whitman, who served from 1994 to 2001. The sculpture was commissioned by The Friends of the State House and measures three feet in height, weighing 75 pounds.
