2026-05-182026-05-182013-06-21https://hdl.handle.net/10929/156202These are the Icons behind the altar in Sanctuary of Church The Icon of the Transfiguration depicts Christ taking the Divine form before the Apostles Peter, James and John on Mount Tabor . To the left and right of Christ stand Prophet Elijah and Moses. The Icon to the left of the altar is a copy of the Anastasis Icon. The original was painted between 1315-1321 and is one of the most famous Resurrection images. It shows Christ the descent into Hell and Christ pulling Adam and Eve by their wrists. Christ is standing on two boards, sometimes also depicted as crossed which represent the bronze gates to Hades. The people on either side of Christ typically include King David, King Solomon, Moses, Abel, St. John the Baptist and various other patriarchs and prophets.Original file name 53.jpg3925 x 1716Each photograph within this collection is protected by copyright and/or related rights.
