Founded in 1812 under the auspices of Archibald Alexander, the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, and the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), it is the second-oldest seminary in the United States. It is also the largest of ten seminaries associated with the Presbyterian Church. Brown Hall was completed in 1865 and was the gift of Isabella Brown of Baltimore. She had planned to give money for a dormitory to the Princeton Theological Seminary before the Civil War, but withdrew the offer as she sympathized with the South. After hearing the story of a captured Confederate soldier who was welcomed to study for the ministry at the Seminary, Isabella Brown gave the funds for Brown Hall.Original file name IMG_2701.jpg4305 x 2870Each photograph within this collection is protected by copyright and/or related rights.
