2024-07-312024-07-312023-01-23https://hdl.handle.net/10929/138352On September 29, 1963, one of the most venerated and magnificent of Russian Icons, Our Lady of Kazan was brought to Saints Peter and Paul in Jersey City. According to tradition, the original icon of Our Lady of Kazan was brought to Russia from Constantinople in the 13th century. After the Russian Revolution of 1917, there was speculation that the original icon was sold by the Bolsheviks. The icon was exhibited at the World Trade Fair in New York in 1964�1965. and later sent to F�tima, Portugal. In 1993 the icon from F�tima was given to the Vatican and Pope John Paul II had it installed in his study, where he venerated it for eleven years. In 2004 Pope John II gave the Icon to the Russian Orthodox Church and it is now enshrined in the Cathedral of the Elevation of the Holy Cross.
