Description
The original Russian Orthodox icon representing the Virgin Mary (Theotokos) with the infant Jesus Christ was created circa 1327.
It is named after the Tolga river in Yaroslavl. Initially three copies of this icon were created between the end of the 13th and the beginning of the 14th-century.
One of the original 3 icons is currently held in the Tretyakov Gallery in the Russian Museum.
The Theotokos of Tolga is referred to as the patroness of the Yaroslavl land.
