dc.description | After the British surrender at Saratoga The French entered the war as an ally of the United States. The British commander feared another attack. As a result, Lieutenant General Henry Clinton, Commander of the British Forces in Philadelphia, decided to abandon Philadelphia and marched his army north to New York City. After this 10 day march from Philadelphia the British camped in Freehold New Jersey. They actually camped along Dutch Lane and the Freehold-Mount Holly Road. This is a picture of the reenactors recreating that campsite. | |
