Description
This painting by N.A. Carter was created in 1888. It is a copy of a painting created by John Trumbull in 1786. It depicts the first major battle of the Revolution near Boston. It portrays the death of colonial General Joseph Warren, a physician who chose to serve as a soldier. Witnessing the dramatic scene was African- American soldier Peter Salem who was given his freedom from slavery in exchange for enlisting in the army portrait of Paul Revere on Display in Military Life
