| dc.description | Rev. James Caldwell served as the pastor of this church and would play a prominent role in the American Revolution. An active partisan on the side of the Patriots, he would be known as the "Soldier Parson" . HIs wife would be killed by the British while she sat with her children on a bed. Because of his activities the original meeting house was burnt by the British on January 28, 1780. The churchyard dates from 1687 and has over two thousand graves, many from the American Revolutionary War, including the Reverend James Caldwell. In 2013, a Bible dating from 1699 belonging to founder John Ogden was returned to the congregation | |
