dc.descriptionLocated in the center of Lakewood is Lake Carasaljo. This man-made lake was created in the mid-1700 when a dam was built on the southern side of the Metedeconk River. The lake was named after the daughters and wife of Joseph Woolston Brick the owner of a local Iron Works in 1865. The daughters' names were Caroline and Sarah. His wife's name was Josephine hence Carasaljo. Legend has it that these three women died in the lake, however there are documents showing that they were alive when it was renamed.
