While soldiers were not supposed to gamble but dice made of bone, horns, wood and even musket balls could easily be concealed. 12. The army paid the soldier with nearly worthless paper money. 14. Today this would be called knapsack. It was a backpack made of painted canvas and was used to carry a soldier's clothing, blanket and personal items. | |
