The three-masted schooner the Lucy Evelyn was built in Harrington, Maine in 1917 for Capt. Everett Lindsey. He named it after his two daughters. For many years the Lucy Evelyn sailed seas. In 1948, after a bad storm off the Jersey Coast she was badly damaged, towed to Little Egg Harbor and abandoned. The Town's people believe that she could become a tourist attraction for the island. So it was decided to build a mail around her. So Bay Village was built and the Lucy Evelyn was converted into a gift shop. Unfortunately she caught fire and burned to the ground in January 1972. She would be replaced by the Tivoli and an additional mall was built named Schooner Wharf.
