Stirrups and spurs were only two of the many pieces of equipment required by mounted soldiers. Outfitting regiments and officers with bridles, saddles, and other equipment as well as uniforms and weapons was costly. Often these expenses were borne by the individual rather than the army. In this picture are a pair of American brass Stirrups from the late 18th century, a pair of leather American Spurs also from the late 18th Century, and a brass, iron and leather horse plate also from the 18th Century.
