dc.descriptionFounded in 1860, St. Michael�s eventually became a powerhouse parish in Jersey City for decades in the early 20th century. St. Michaels is built of red brick trimmed in Nova Scotia free stone, together with brown stone and granite. The facade also is embellished with English tessellated and encaustic tiles. The church, located at 252 Ninth St., was designed and built by Irish immigrants, which was most of the church's demographic in the late 1800s The original plan included twin towers but it was determined that the building would not bear the strain.
