Abstract
Description
Built in 18601861, it was the home of political cartoonist Thomas Nast. By the age of fifteen he was employed as an artist by magazines, and he began producing drawings for Harper's Weekly in 1862.
It was during his tenure there that he produced many of his most iconic caricatures and depictions, including the Republican elephant, the Democratic donkey, and Uncle Sam.
In addition he created many representations of Boss Tweed and Tammany Hall which have been credited to the downfall of the Tweed Machine.
Fearing for the safety of his family he moved to Morristown.
