dc.descriptionThis served as the bedroom for both George and Martha Washington. Martha spent parts of her day here attending to such tasks as writing, sewing or entertaining guests. Officers often took furloughs during the winter months, but during eight years of war, George Washington did not go home in the winter. Instead Martha traveled by horse-drawn coach to visit him. Martha Washington traveled from Virginia to a variety of places including Cambridge, Massachusetts; Valley Forge, Pennsylvania; and Morristown, New Jersey.
