Abstract

Description

William Livingston was the first elected governor of New Jersey. His main residence was Liberty Hall located in Union, New Jersey. When the British Army occupied Union County, Governor Livingston and his family took refuge in this house in Parsippany, the Livingston-Benedict House. The Livingston-Benedict House was built 1752 and the governor and his family lived here until it was safe to return to Liberty Hall. Today the house is a private residence which is still owned by the descendents of the Benedict Family.
