There were two giant hand-shaped signs, one hanging on the outside of the Clam Broth House that pointed downward towards the entrance, and one on a neighboring building (which is the only sign still there today). It was known for its bone broth which served many purposes, including recovering from severe hangovers. The floors were covered with sawdust and the language was salty During the making of the movie "On the Waterfront" Lee J. Cobb was often seen here. In addition, stars like Frank Sinatra reportedly spend time enjoying a bucket of steamers before and after his rise to fame, along with other well-known stars such as Marlon Brando, Rod Steiger, and Karl Malden.
