It was the first installation of this equipment in the USA. As a result it was here that American first learned about the sinking of the Titanic, The return of Commodore Perry's return after his victory in Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War, Allowed the New York Herald to report the results of the 1899 America Cup Race of the Jersey Shore.
