Description

Located along the Rahway River in Millburn, NJ the building was originally built as a paper mill, hence the name. It was purchased by poet and playwright Antoinette Scudder in 1934 utilizing funding from her father�s newspaper fortune. The theater opened in 1938. Over the years Irene Castle, Basil Rathbone, Carol Channing, Geraldine Page, Betty White, Liza Minelli, Bert Parks, Kristin Chenoweth, Bernadette Peters, Chita Rivera, Tony Roberts and many other stars of stage and screen appeared at the theater. Today it is estimated that more than 450,000 people attend performances here annually.
