Abstract
Description
The Romanesque structure has a Byzantine character as well. In addition, the influence of Art Moderne and Art Deco is evident in details of the exterior facade and the interior appointments. St. Aedans Church, at the corner of Bergen Avenue and Mercer Street, was built for a cost of $1 million. Ground was broken on the feast of St. Joseph on March 19, 1929, the cornerstone was laid on June 15, and the church was formally dedicated on October 4, 1931. The Romanesque building features an enormous dome at an exterior elevation of 108 feet and a diameter of 60 feet. The exterior is built of face brick in autumn colors which harmonize well with the color and texture of the red sandstone
