Description
This is Hamilton Park located on the cliffs of the New Jersey Palisades in Weehawken, NJ.
While the park offers a great place to enjoy the fantastic view of the Manhattan skyline. it is remembered for something more than that.
Between 1700 and 1884 it was known as The Weehawken Dueling Grounds. During that time period at least 18 known duels to occurred at this location.
The most famous of these duels occurred July 11, 1804 between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. It was during that deal Hamilton was fatally shot by Burr.
