dc.descriptionThis building dates back to the original Shongum Club and in 1884 it had 50 members. Over the years the guest register was quite impressive containing the names of many very wealthy men and prominent politicians. There were congressmen, senators, educators including the president of Rutgers University and even presidents who visited Shongum. After a Saturday morning of fishing, the members and guests would sit down to an afternoon of poker. Politics was always the main topic. The club was equipped to provide meals and overnight lodging and kept its own steward and assistants for this purpose. In winter, sledding parties were organized and the more hardy members would fish with �tip-ups� through the ice. Trap shooting was another popular past time
