Description

The Soldiers, Sailors and Marines Memorial, also known as the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, by Philip Martiny was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 30, 1899. The monument, dedicated to the Civil War veterans from Hudson County, depicts the heroic seated figure of the Goddess of Peace. Helmeted and cloaked in a long flowing robe, the bronze figure holds a sword in his left hand, and an olive branch in her right.
