dc.descriptionThis flag design is taken from a tiny detail on a map of Sullivan's campaign against the Iroquois Confederacy in 1779. It is unclear whether one or all of the regiments in Maxwell's Brigade (1st NJ, 2nd NJ, 3rd NJ, and Spencer's Additional Regiment) carried this flag, or whether it was a brigade-level flag. George Washington does mention a brigade flag and division flag in his general orders in 1780.
