Abstract

Description

The Jersey City Police Memorial, located on Montgomery Street and Marin Boulevard, was sculpted by Archimedes A. Giacomantonio and dedicated in May 1936. The memorial to the deceased members of the Jersey City Police Department was originally located at Bayview Cemetery. It was stolen from the cemetery twice and vandalized twice, in 1961 and again in 1976. Giacomantonio and Jersey City welder Kelly Hoskins volunteered their services for the figure's restoration and it was moved to its current location behind City Hall. The 7-foot polished bronze and iron figure depicts a police officer standing in uniform with his right hand on his holster and his proper left holding his jacket above his belt.
