dc.description | In 1896 Czar Nicholas II, Czar of all the Russias supported the spread of Orthodoxy both in Europe and the USA. In keeping with that goal Czar Nicholas supported the building of St. Nicholas Cathedral in New York City. This cathedral would become the mother church of Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox in Jersey City. On October 15, 1907 a committee of Sam Barna, Victor Hlafik and Peter Zonchyk petitioned His Eminence Archbishop Platon of New York to accept the group into the Russian Orthodox Church and to establish a parish in Jersey City. As a result Saints Peter and Paul was established. | |
