dc.descriptionConstructed between 1740-1750 by Dirck Dey, a Dutch-born planter, the mansion is a combination of Dutch and English architecture, Dey, in all probability, left the completion of the mansion to his son, Theunis. During the American Revolution, Theunis Dey, commanded the Bergen County Militia. offered the easterly side of the house to General Washington as his headquarters. As a result, on two separate occasions the Dey Mansion served as Headquarters for Washington. Once from July 1 through July 28, 1780 and again from October 8 through November 27, 1780
