Abstract

Description

This statue was initially located at the site where Jersey City was founded - Bergen Square, In the winter of 2010, the monument's base and inscribed tablets were demolished. by the Jersey City Board of Education. By doing this the Board had exceeded its authority by removing a city landmark off city property. The bronze statue of Stuyvesant was hauled to a local stone yard for storage. Today it has been placed in a vest pocket park located directly behind the Trust Company Building on Sip Avenue. This location is temporary until enough funds can be raised to restore the base and return it to its original position of honor.
