TThere was a large range of artillery and ammunition employed in the Revolutionary War. Each type of cannon required a specific size shot. The four pound cannon, shown here, used iron balls weighing four pounds, Other types of shot, such as grapeshot, shown on the left, were filled with small iron balls contained in fabric and tied with cord. When fired they would catter, making it a deadly weapon at close range.
