dc.descriptionThe Turtle Back Zoo is located in West Orange and is part of the South Mountain Recreation Complex. The zoo got its name from the Lenape Indians. They noticed a rock formation located on the mountainside just east of the zoo. This formation appears that you are standing on the back of an enormous tortoise. Hence the name Turtle Back
