Description

The torch that the Statue of Liberty holds in her right hand symbolizes enlightenment. The statue�s official name is Liberty �Enlightening the World�. The torch was replaced in 1986 with a copper flame covered with 24K gold. In the left hand of the Statue of Liberty she carries a tablet evoking the law and is inscribed in Roman Numerals with the date of the Declaration of Independence (July 4, 1776) The crown of the Statue of Liberty consists of 7 spikes. While no-one really knows the meaning of the crown there are several suggestions which include: The Light of Freedom extends to the world. They represent the seven seas and seven continents of the earth , or The seven essential human freedoms. The tablet in her left hand with the date of the Declaration of Independence in Roman numerals: July 4, 1776.
