| dc.description | In Alpine, New Jersey, there is a gothic tower that dwarfs the surrounding mansions along Rio Vista Drive. It is the only structure separate from the estates in the neighborhood. Located in the middle of the road. The towers large archways and ornate decorations provide the perfect backdrop for a grisly story. You see it is claimed to be haunted. It was originally built by sugar baron Manuel Rionda in order to allow his wife Harriet Riondato see New York from the New Jersey side of the Hudson River. According to legend when his wife Harriet saw him with another woman, she committed suicide by jumping off the tower. In reality she died of natural causes in 1922. During the 1970's it became a popular destination for teens who have been inside and reported encountering mysterious gusts of cold wind that sent them screaming for their cars. | |
