Fort Hancock's new library building was dedicated with appropriate ceremonies by Miss Fannie Hurst, novelist and lecturer (left)and Brigadier General Philip S. Gage, commanding general of the Harbor Defenses of New York (right). Gen. Gage is shown here drawing the first book -- a copy of Miss Hurst's novel, "Back Street." Librarian Elizabeth W. Evans is making the entry on Gen. Gage's library card. Miss Hurst presented a complete set of novels to the library at the dedication.en_US
