Abstract
Description
The Hereford Inlet was subject to changing environmental conditions such as shifting sandbars and strong currents. As a result, in 1873 The United States Life Saving Service petitioned Congress to fund the erection of a lighthouse at Hereford Inlet.
Construction was completed and it became operational in 1874. This lighthouse has a 50-foot tower and its beacons are visible for up to 13 nautical miles.
Today, Hereford Inlet Lighthouse operates as a fully operating lighthouse and museum.
