Abstract
Description
The Kitchen - While Washington was in the Ford house, breakfast, lunch and dinner was prepared each day for nearly 30 people. Very often the servants had to prepare meals for additional guests that would arrive to meet with Washington. This was the warmest room in the house and it became the gathering place during the cold winter. The room also served at the servants dining room.
Mrs. Ford's Food Pantry Mrs. Ford used this small room to keep her entire winter supply of flour, dried fruits and vegetables, smoked and dried meats, beans, apples, sauerkraut and salt. Jugs of cider and vinegar, boxes of cheeses and breads, tea, and bags of sugar were stored in this room. The Servants Bedroom This room was heated only by the fireplace located in the kitchen below.
Servants Quarters in Ford Mansion -Located on the second floor above the kitchen, this room served as the servants quarters. During Washington's stay at the house about 20 people slept in this room.
