Abstract

Description

There is a reason for my choice of Newport as the beginning for this album. As a former Planning Commissioner of Jersey City I believe this development project was the actual start of the "rebirth" of Jersey City. In 1986 a $10 billion project led by real-estate tycoon Samuel J. LeFrak and his firm The LeFrak Organization began the development of a mixed-use zoning or mixed-use plan for this section of Jersey City. The plan was to develop a neighborhood that blends residential, commercial, cultural, institutional, or entertainment uses into one space. And so it began and today we have Newport in Jersey City, This picture was taken from Newport Town Square Park.
