dc.descriptionThe main shopping area of downtown Jersey City has always been Newark Avenue. As a young boy I remember going to the Capital and the Palace on a Saturday Afternoon to see two movies, a newsreel , and a number of cartoons. I remember going to the Wonder Store with Santa. I even got separated from my Mom there, got lost but still made it home safely thanks to a wonderful Black Man who helped get me back to my parents safely. They had a alarm out and the Jersey City Police Department was looking all over the city for me. After they found me they brought me to the precinct and I got ice cream and even had a police officer's hat on.
