dc.descriptionBuilt by the Pennsylvania�West Jersey Railroad, the 8 identical cottages were built in 1869�71 The railroad offered free transport to and from Cape May for three years as an incentive to purchase a cottage. The 8 Stockton Cottages were named after the Stockton Hotel which was directly across the street from the Stockton Hotel/ The hotel was demolished in 1911. Each of the cottages were a simple box, however, but each had a highly individualist wooden d�cor. Note the giant petal-shaped acroterion, made of wood, on the rooftop
